Gabriel Salokar Vancouver, Wash.

No service will be held for Gabriel R. Salokar, 23, at his request. Evergreen Funeral Home in Vancouver, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Salokar died Friday in Vancouver, where he had recently moved. He died of complications related to muscular dystrophy. He was born in Spokane and graduated from Ferris High School. He served as United Way Poster Child for Spokane in 1978 with his twin brother, Joshua. Joshua died in 1983. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Annie and Bradley Hansen of Vancouver; his father, Robert Salokar of Tacoma; one brother, Joe Salokar of Vancouver; and his grandparents, Lee and Edna Hegel of Mohler, Wash., Roger and Joanne Hansen of Pollack Pines, Calif., and Joan Burke of Port Orchard, Wash. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 112 E. First Ave, Spokane, WA 99202.

Awww, so sad! I don't remember him by name but I remember his face. He was in a wheelchair his whole life, yes? Life can be so cruel...

I don't know how it happened but Gabe became good friends with Jeff Adams and I. Maybe it was because he had wheels and a good sense of humor. He would drive Jeff and I arround in the halls. We shared the love of Kodiak chewing tobacco. Jeff and I would visit him at his room at the hospital near Manito Park. He was a brave and funny friend. RIP Gabe.
